Awhile back, l read or saw a fiber-optic electric guitar, where the strings
were fiber optic. In a normal electric guitar, a metal wire vibrates, and
that vibration is picked up and amplified (with any other effects) to
produce sound. The FO guitar uses fiber optic strings and reproduces sound
by detecting the... I am not really sure, but the differences in light
transmission time (probably), and then reproducing a corresponding sound.
Does this actually exist anywhere?

Honestly I can not think that it will work because the
differences in light transmission time would be extremely small. Even if
something was possible to obtain, it would be a rather complex and
expensive way to get some sound from a guitar, don't you think?
