While Wm B is correct to a point, any oil will do if you
currently have none and HAVE to get something cut up, bar oil is actually
significantly different from 30 W automotive oil. It is much heavier and
has a stringy characteristic to it, that allows it to stick to the chain
and the bar much better.

all it does is oil the chain track, &chain,
Bar oil is usually 30 wt.
as the lubricant? there is specific chain saw lubricant you can
buy at the store. its about 5 dollars
